about

Emotional Tides is the first single from the upcoming second full length album by Pareidolon, "The Unattainable Shore". The song was created in collaboration with drummer Baard Kolstad (Leprous) during the early days of the COVID-19 shutdowns.

lyrics

Part i: Trepidation

Here I sit in my small wooden boat
On my way across the ocean
To foreign lands only dreamt about
Pulled onwards by some compelling notion

To paddle forwards, continue on
Imagine what could lie ahead
What I’ve left behind is long gone
No promise to where I’m being led

Part ii: Aimlessly Adrift

Often I’ve lost sight of my direction
Aimlessly adrift in the open sea
Restless waves obscuring my reflection
Overwhelmed by all from which I flee

Blind luck it seems has its way
Always guiding me where I must go
Back through seemingly endless grey
Towards hope, and with renewed strength I row

(Pearce Solo)

Part iii: Lost In The Waves

But why do I still continue the voyage?
There is no purpose on this boat alone
If the wind picked up and the waves raged
To end my journey here

Would it matter?

(Tocher Solo)

Part iv: Hopeful Horizons

(Yates Solo)

And then, on the horizon it gleams
My stubborn persistence delivered
The shores I didn’t know I had longed for
More bountiful than any I’d dreamed

Suddenly I’ve forgot the long journey
The rough waters and the murky skies
For all that I desire lies before me
I feel a new emotion rise I cannot hide

Part v: Dashed Upon The Rocks

(instrumental)

Part vi: Lament

As I draw near to the beach
Prepared to leave desolation behind
So quickly the tides recede
To wreck my ship - rocks, wood and I entwined

The waters calmly rise again to lift me from the wreckage
And I grab hold to a piece of debris
As I slowly drift away from the land that beckons me
I tell myself I’m better off at sea
